Throughout its five season run, the series released multiple albums. In 2002, after extensive pressure from fans of the show, Jan Hammer finally released a more comprehensive collection of the score music he wrote for Miami Vice. While the first disc contained music that had already been released on previous soundtracks namely the three Miami Vice albums and Hammer's own album, Escape From Television, the second CD. Miami Vice is a 1985 soundtrack album containing music from the television series Miami Vice. It was the first of three soundtrack compilations relating to the show, containing a selection of popular and score music taken from season 1 and season 2 of the show. When released, the album enjoyed huge success, bolstered by the Miami Vice Theme and You Belong to the City singles, which reached 1 and 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively. The second round of Miami Vice tunes does not disappoint or at least it did not disappoint me. With Jan Hammer's classic Miami Vice Theme and Crockett's Theme, popping this disc in will instantly make even a short drive across town a fun ride. It all just comes naturally. What we have here in the 'Miami Vice II' album is a fairly solid set of tracks that come in a variety of styles, with different emotional tones and the like, yet still provide a cohesive whole. The artists involved include some pretty big names such as Jackson Browne and Phil Collins. It's a good, solid album, and lots of people would really enjoy it. As a cultural movement, Miami Vice defined many of the visual aspects of popular entertainment. Michael Mann's classy cop show also put music front and center in particular, songs which dictated plot, mood, and action. Like most sequels, Miami Vice II doesn't touch the first soundtrack, but still includes the excellent Jan Hammer opening and two other stalwart instruments mixed in with some real oddities.
