Wreck is the seventh album by Unsane, released on March 20, 2012 through Alternative Tentacles. All tracks are written by Unsane, except Ha Ha Ha by Flipper. Dave Curran bass guitar, additional vocals, design. Vincent Signorelli drums. Chris Spencer vocals, guitar, photography. Production and additional personnel. Carl Saff mastering. Andrew Schneider production, mixing, recording. Unsane production. Jammi York photography. Unsane is Unsane's debut album, released in 1991 through Matador Records. It is the only studio album by the group to feature founding member Charlie Ondras, who died of a heroin overdose during the 1992 New Music Seminar in New York during the tour supporting the album. The album's cover art, depicting a decapitated corpse on subway tracks, was given to the band from a friend who worked on the investigation for the case. In true Unsane fashion, this New York post-hardcore act delivers another album of abrasive guitars, aggressive vocals, punk spirit, and hard grooves. What do you think of this album. Unsane's seventh studio album, 2012's simply but eloquently named Wreck, finds the New York noise-rock pioneers older, wiser, possibly not as angry as they once were, but no less miserable, either. In fact, if many prior Unsane records felt like a vicious kick administered by a bunch of steel-booted street thugs, Wreck feels more like waking up from a medically induced coma a few days later: the searing pain is blinding, the body useless, and the ears have no legs to give them escape. Wreck isn't Unsane's most intense album- 2005's Blood Run hit a harrowing peak that's unlikely to be topped- nor is it as immediate as Scattered or as huge-sounding as 2007's Visqueen. But much of what's here stands with the band's best work. The biggest takeaway is the monomaniacal genius of Chris Spencer, the way his presence elevates the band from merely aggro to downright poetic. Mini departures aside, Wreck is simply another strong Unsane album and another wrench thrown in the idea that an enduring band needs an arc. Review Summary: Unsane in the membrane. Unsane are a group that live up to all of the grammatically incorrect glory their name implies. The brutishly noisy New York trio have displayed wanton aggression, filth and fury throughout a career just shy of a quarter century. Wreck, their seventh full-length effort, is pretty much everything you would come to expect from an Unsane record. From the get go, its an uncompromising aural assault. Rat informs the listener that there is no way back. The album lives up to its name, the question is: are you part of the carnage or a bystander Give it a try and see where you end up.
