Album

Star Time is a 1991 71-track, 4-CD box set by James Brown. Its contents span most of the length of his career up to the time of its release, starting in 1956 with his first hit record, Please, Please, Please, and ending with Unity, his 1984 collaboration with Afrika Bambaataa. Writing in 2007, Robert Christgau described it as the finest box set ever released. as essential a package as the biz has ever hawked, not just because it's James Brown, but because compilers Cliff White and Harry Weinger. Star Time got everything right: it put Brown's hugely influential career into striking perspective, helping to complete his critical renaissance, and the richness of its music set a standard for box sets in general. It was no easy task to balance Brown's lengthy, multi-part funk workouts with the need to include all of his most significant tracks, and the compilers did an excellent job in deciding when and when not to truncate Cold Sweat, for example, must be heard in its entirety. Star Time 1991 - download the album and listen online. On this page you can listen to the album, get information about the album, see the list of songs and much more. Most important - you can download the album Star Time to your computer or phone absolutely free of charge, and without registration. Listen online and stay in a good mood. Album: Star Time 1991. Excellent box set (& still the most expensive release I've ever bought - wot a skinflint!). Only scratches the surface of his output, but most of the obvious choices are here, in full-length versions, sometimes with revealing studio outtakes put back on. Probably the most noticeable track left off is "Living In America", which you might say is a blessing. The other thing missing is the stuff by the galaxy of groups & solo artists associated with him, for which you will have to search elsewhere. The first CD is broadly RnB ("Try Me" is the knockout here for me, superb soul record). The second one has him forging funk. The third could be one of the best single-artist compilation CDs ever if released on its own, all the prime era singles, funky as hell. The fourth is a little weaker imho, later period, more of a mishmash, but still better than most other peoples' entire careers! Very good booklet too.
Most of these are NOT in their full versions. We are much better off with the OG albums or the Polydor comps from the mid-90's.
